Spiritual Transformation

Jesus heals a blind man in stages and then asks his disciples who people believe he is. Jesus heals the man in two steps to symbolize the disciples' spiritual blindness - they only partially understand who Jesus is at this point. When Jesus asks them who people say he is, they respond that some think he is John the Baptist, Elijah, or one of the prophets. But when Jesus asks the disciples directly who they believe he is, Peter declares "You are the Christ," showing he understands Jesus is the prophesied Messiah. The sermon challenges us to consider who we say Jesus is - do we truly know him as God incarnate, the Savior of the world? If we want to grow spiritually, we need to continually seek Jesus, asking him for wisdom and taking steps of faith as he promises that those who ask will receive. Overall, the sermon encourages people to commit or re-commit to following Jesus as Lord and Savior, calling for spiritual transformation through faith in Christ.
