Sacrificing Comfort for Discipleship

What do you need to sacrifice in your own life to follow Jesus? Because if you're going to truly follow Him, you have to be willing to let go of comfort, of convenience, of the good things that pull you away from His best. We see this played out in Luke 9 as three would-be followers approach Jesus, and every single one of them walks away unable to surrender what it costs to be His disciple. The first won't give up his comfort and security. The second can't put Jesus above his family obligations. The third hesitates, looking back at his past and what he's leaving behind. But here's the truth: whether it's the security we cling to, the responsibilities that feel urgent, or the past that haunts us, Jesus asks us to count the cost and follow Him anyway. He always knows what's best.

What are you sacrificing for Christ? Are you too comfortable where you are, unwilling to grow? Are you letting good things block God's best plan for your life? Or are you looking back, held captive by shame and hesitation, when Jesus is calling you forward into a new life? Don't let anything keep you from Him. Lay it down at the foot of the cross. Forget what lies behind and reach forward to what lies ahead. Press toward the goal that God has set before you. Deny yourself, take up your cross daily, and follow Jesus. He is the only way, the truth, the life. There is no other path to the Father but through Him.
