Jesus Calls the First Disciples

Jesus calls us not just to believe but to follow. In Luke 5, we see Simon Peter and his fellow fishermen encounter the authority of Christ in a miraculous way. After a fruitless night of fishing, Jesus tells them to cast their nets once more—against all logic, against their own understanding. And what happens? Their nets overflow with fish, so much that their boats begin to sink! In that moment, Peter recognizes who Jesus truly is, falling to his knees in awe. But Jesus calls him to something greater: "Do not fear; from now on, you will be catching men."

This is the call for us today. Jesus is not just a teacher, not just a miracle worker—He is Lord, and He calls us to leave behind what we once clung to and follow Him. Like Peter, James, and John, we are called to be fishers of men, to step out in faith even when it goes against our instincts, trusting in the One who holds all authority. Will we drop our nets? Will we follow? Let us respond, not with hesitation, but with full surrender to the call of Christ.
