Listening to the Lord as Worship

Have you ever been so caught up in doing good things that you missed the best thing? In Luke 10, we meet two sisters, Mary and Martha, and their story reveals a tension we all face. Martha welcomes Jesus into her home with great hospitality, bustling about with preparations to care for their guests. But while she serves, Mary sits at Jesus's feet, learning from Him. When Martha grows frustrated and complains about doing all the work alone, Jesus gently corrects her. He doesn't say that serving is bad, but He shows her that she has become so distracted by the good works that she has missed the greatest treasure; spending time with the Lord Himself. We can be so wrapped up in our busyness that we lose sight of what matters most.

So here's the challenge for us today: Like Martha, many of us get caught in a cycle of trying to earn God's favor through our works, forgetting that we are saved by grace, not by what we do. We do good works because we are saved, not to be saved. Are you serving joyfully from a heart overflowing with His grace, or are you anxious and striving? Take time to sit at His feet. Read His Word. Pray. Let your worship involve both doing and dwelling with the Lord, and watch how your entire outlook transforms.
