The Greatest
As Jesus was traveling with his disciples to Capernaum, he again told them that he would suffer, be killed, and rise again. But the disciples still could not understand or accept this. On their way, they started arguing about which of them was the greatest. However, Jesus taught them that to be great in God's kingdom requires humility and serving others, not status or prestige. To illustrate, Jesus took a child in his arms, saying whoever welcomes and cares for those in need, as one would a child, welcomes and receives Jesus himself. Jesus perfectly modeled servanthood and humility by giving his life on the cross. If we want to be great in God's eyes, we should follow Jesus' example by pursuing God's will, serving others, caring for the marginalized and forgotten, and sharing the gospel. True greatness comes not through pursuing worldly status, but through humility, service to others, caring for the least of these, and obedience to God's will.
