Jesus is Born
God’s unexpected sovereignty and humility are revealed in the birth of Jesus Christ. Even through pagan rulers, dangerous journeys, and seemingly insignificant places like Bethlehem, God’s perfect plan unfolds. Bethlehem—the city of David—ties Jesus to ancient prophecy, fulfilling Micah’s words and connecting Him to King David, the anointed shepherd-king. The long-awaited Messiah came not with grandeur, but humbly, born in a feeding trough surrounded by animals. God orchestrated every detail, using the most unexpected circumstances to bring about the greatest miracle in history: the Savior of the world entering our broken world.
But God’s proclamation of this good news is just as unexpected. The heavenly host—thousands of angels—declared Jesus’ birth not to kings or priests, but to humble shepherds in a field. These shepherds, overlooked by society, became the first evangelists, hurrying to see the Christ child and proclaiming His arrival. Friends, God is still sovereign today, working through the unexpected to fulfill His purposes. He doesn’t require influence or readiness—He uses those who trust Him. So let us humble ourselves, like those shepherds, glorifying and praising God for the gift of Jesus Christ, our Savior, who brings peace to all who believe.
