Known By Our Love for One Another

​​​​If we can't show love to other believers, how will the watching world know that we are disciples of Christ?

This is what Jesus says in John 13:34-35, when He gives His disciples a new commandment. He's very clear that the unbelieving world will know His disciples belong to Him because of one thing: the love they show one another. I unpacked this this past week because it's been a burden on my heart that we, as believers, need to show an immense amount of love for one another—an immense amount of love for one another that isn't dependent on another's actions.

Because our love for other believers has a foundation, that love​ is predicated upon God's love for us. God's love for us is the foundation of our love for others.

Reconcile with your fellow believers, not because of anything about them, but because of God, because of the love He shows us through Christ Jesus, who came to die on the cross, having lived a perfect life, to pay the price for our sins. That love, that gospel unity, is what unites us, not the brokenness we all share as sinners.

But because of the fullness and completeness of Christ, may the true gospel of Christ Jesus be the single uniting factor among us as brothers and sisters in Christ.
