Harmony in the Lord
In a choir, you have different people singing different voice parts. Sometimes they sing the same part, and sometimes they sing different parts that complement one another. That is called harmony.
In addition, there are two kinds of harmony: consonance and dissonance.
Consonance is the kind of harmony we like. It sounds pretty and good. But dissonance is the kind of harmony that kind of grates on it. It produces tension.
The thing about music is that you need some level of dissonance to lead to consonance. Because that dissonance, when it resolves, pays off so much more beautifully. Just like those four voice parts have different parts that complement one another.
This is an apt example because Paul in Philippians says to live in harmony with one another. In the same way, we live as Christians with different gifts. We don't live to be exactly the same. We have different abilities and giftings. But just like a choir, our different abilities and giftings complement one another. Furthermore, just like dissonance moves into consonance with harmony, conflict, when handled well and resolved well, can be a beautiful thing in strengthening a church or a body of believers. This is what Paul does to encourage the congregation in Philippi. And I encourage you to use conflict well, to handle that conflict well, so that we may live in harmony with one another and glorify Jesus Christ our Savior.
This is why we can live in harmony. And that is why I urge you, whoever is listening, to live in harmony in the Lord.
God Bless,
Pastor Brandon
