Pursue Christ Above All Else
"We must forget what lies behind in order to pursue what is ahead."
This is what Paul writes in Philippians 3 about forgetting what is in our past, our past hang-ups, even our past achievements, because we are so focused on what is coming ahead. We focus on the prize. In this case, the prize is Jesus Christ Himself.
That is what we, as Christians, need to focus on. So, regardless of our past hurts and grievances against one another, even our past achievements, we need to face forward. Think of a runner approaching the finish line with other runners. They have two choices. They could look behind them to see what the other runners are doing, or they could press forward toward the finish line.
See, if you turn around, that slows you down. But if you press forward, you're trying to cross the finish line with every bit of distance you can possibly muster. That is how we need to run. We must seek to follow Him with all of our beings, so singularly focused on Jesus and spreading the good news of the Gospel of Christ that, while those past events, successes, or hurts did happen - we don't have to pretend they didn't - we become so focused on Jesus and spreading the Gospel that nothing else seems to matter because the surpassing glory of Christ Jesus overwhelms them all. That is what we should strive to do.
