Judging Others
When we talk about judging others, the world has a lot to say. “Don’t judge me” or “Only God can judge me” get thrown around often, but what did Jesus really teach about this? In Luke chapter 6, Jesus gives us a clear picture of the heart behind judgment. He doesn't call us to abandon discernment, but he warns us against prideful condemnation. We're not the judge, jury, or executioner. Only God is. And when we assume that role, we fall into the same trap as the Pharisees, thinking we’re superior when we’re actually blind to our own sin. Jesus calls us instead to show mercy, to forgive freely, and to be generous in grace.
We must ask ourselves, what kind of guide are we? Are we the blind leading the blind, or are we following the humble path of Jesus, our perfect teacher? He shows us that real spiritual sight begins with humility. Before we worry about the speck in our brother’s eye, we must deal with the log in our own. Jesus doesn't say ignore the speck; He says deal with our hearts first so we can help others in love, not pride. That is the kind of judgment He teaches, one rooted in humility and shaped by the cross. So today, are you walking in pride, or are you walking in mercy?
