Receive Your Sight

As Jesus is leaving Jericho with his disciples and a crowd, they pass by Bartimaeus, a blind beggar sitting alongside the road. Bartimaeus recognizes Jesus as the Messiah, the promised Son of David, and cries out persistently for Jesus to have mercy on him. Despite attempts by others to silence this marginalized man, Bartimaeus will not relent. Jesus hears Bartimaeus and calls him over. Bartimaeus throws aside his cloak and comes expectedly to Jesus, simply asking for his sight. This contrasts with James and John who recently asked to sit at Jesus’ right and left hand in glory. Jesus tells Bartimaeus “Go, your faith has made you well” – restoring more than his physical sight as Bartimaeus experiences salvation through his belief in Jesus. Bartimaeus then follows Jesus, transformed by faith. We should have have remarkable, persistent faith like Bartimaeus. Ask Jesus to heal and save what is spiritually broken in your life, Jesus still works powerfully and miraculously today to transform those who cry out to him with expectant faith. I invite you to respond to Jesus concerning areas needing healing and salvation.
